Last night Avery wanted Ben to watch a movie with her. He said "Oh Avery I -" She put her hand up to stop him and said "Let me guess, you have to do some work".
As he shrugged in agreement she said "Dad, why don't you just get a job selling fruits or something."
HA! HA! HA! You should let Avery know that Ben used to sell all sorts of things. . .something about pest control comes to mind. Too bad our kids figure out so quickly that even though they are very loved, sometimes we don't have the time to show it.
Oh my gosh, that is hilarious! She is quite the character and so smart -- well not that I think he should switch to selling fruits. She'll be glad one day he's a doctor!
I love the "hand up", so classic. Fruits would be nice, but risky--they go rotten so quickly and Avery might end up having to eat all the leftover ones that are too ripe for Ben to sell. (My mom would've made me do that.) But wait, I'm sure Ben can sell anything.
One weekend morning Joseph left the family to go to work, and as he was leaving Porter asked him, "Dad are you ever going to get a different job?" I'm sure selling fruit would give him some more family time.
If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charities expenditure excludes them...Sometimes our pride also hinders our charity; we are tempted to spend more than we ought on the showy forms of generosity (tipping, hospitality) and less than we ought on those who really need our help. - C.S.
